Sony patent hints at PSP-iPhone killer combo

By BRIM | July 1, 2008

According to the rumors going around the still to be developed PSP phone might be quite different from the original patent filed in by Sony Ericsson. In fact there might not be a Sony Ericsson involved at all. A recent patent filed by Sony computer entertainment claims its director, Phil Harrison as the sole inventor of a hand held device with a sizable touch screen, a hive of sensors and force feedback. Making this PSP phone very different from the original patent listed under the Sony Ericsson brand referred to as “Orientation based multiple mode mechanically vibrated touch screen display”. Another spec on this device is the use of a system called the “tactile pixels” which creates tiny bumps wherever the display is touched. The components inside this phone are similar to that of PSP’s the difference being the added mass storage and built in sensors possibly even including an accelerometer for better functionality. With or without Sony Ericsson. This device seems to be well equipped to complete with the iPhone and hopefully with some extra efforts from Sony ; we might just see this phone in the market sometime next year.
